Gender Equity  

7.1.1

Measures initiated by the institution for the promotion of gender equity during the year:

Highlight the curricular and co- and extracurricular activities promoting gender equity and sensitization and the facilities available for women on campus (within a maximum of 200 words).

 

  • IEM is committed to promote gender equality and empower women both financially and emotionally.
  • Women are given leadership roles like Registrar, Principal, Deans, Head of the Departments, Placement Cell and ensure equal opportunities.
  • IEM is an Co-educational institute and has gender-neutral uniforms.
  • Startups initiated by individuals of all genders are encouraged. Heads of all statutory committees are selected on merit, not gender, race, or religion.
  • Institute provides counselling services, self-defence classes, and equal opportunities for all students.
  • Various training programs and workshops on gender equality are conducted in collaboration with organizations like Rotary Club and Lion’s Club, Innerwheel Club.
  • Special events like “Virangana” workshops celebrate occasions like International Women’s Day, emphasizing the significance of education, mental and physical health for girls.
  • To ensure safety, IEM has 17 security officers, IEM maintains electronic surveillance with 987 CCTV cameras, and monitors hostel entry and exit timings.
  • Self-defence classes are regularly organized, and students are educated during orientation to be respectful and caring towards their female counterparts.
  • An Internal Complaints Committee promptly addresses any incidents or harassment complaints, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Visitors must register their entry, and alumni are encouraged to do the same, ensuring a secure environment for everyone.

The institute has successfully implemented an efficient and sustainable waste management system, consisting of several key steps:

  • Solid Waste Management:
    • Strategic placement of garbage collection bins for efficient solid waste management.
    • Daily collection and disposal of waste by NKDA.
    • Emphasis on recycling to minimize costs and environmental impact.
  • Liquid Waste Management:
    • Aerobic sewage treatment technique for wastewater and sewage.
    • Utilization of treated wastewater in gardening.
    • Rainwater harvesting, involving collection and storage for future use.
    • Artificial recharge to groundwater to augment reservoirs and reduce demand for treated water.
    • Separate pipe system for rainwater distribution, contributing to cost reduction.
  • E-waste Management:
    • Repair of defective electronic devices to extend utility.
    • Safe disposal of e-waste in collaboration with Hulladek Recycling Pvt. Ltd.
    • Recycling every six months in adherence to state government guidelines.
    • Detailed records of e-waste recycling, showcasing annual progress.
  • Waste Recycling System:
    • Utilization of treated wastewater for gardening.
    • Recycling of paper waste.
    • Environmentally responsible disposal of e-waste.
  • Hazardous Chemicals Waste Management:
  • Use of dilute solutions in laboratory settings.

  • Socio-Economic Initiatives:
    • Annual events like tree plantation drives, IEM-Model United Nation (IEM-MUN), debate competitions, and panel discussions on stock market and shares focus on socio-economic awareness.
    • The IEM Toastmaster clubs organize events throughout the year, enhancing the global perspective for both faculty and students.
  • IEM MUN 2022:
    • 6th Edition of IEM MUN, held from October 10-11, 2022, collaborated with the UN Information Centre of India and Bhutan.
    • It served as a valuable source of knowledge on global affairs, contributing to positive impacts on world issues.
  • Commendable Celebrations:
    • Celebrations in 2023 included Rabindra Jayanti, Teachers’ Day, Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, and Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday Anniversary.

Sensitization of students and employees of the institution to constitutional obligations: values, rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens:

Describe the various activities of the institution for inculcating values for becoming responsible citizens as reflected in the Constitution of India (within a maximum of 200 words).

  • Daily Morning Assembly:

The mission and vision of IEM itself stresses on building good employable citizens of India and above all worthy human beings. There is a compulsory morning assembly for all students where the important achievements are discussed regularly, historical significance of that particular day read out and all latecomers are given academic assignments to make them realise the importance of punctuality.

Students are regularly addressed by Principal and HODs about values, rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens, morals and ethical practices. Values and ethics, Constitution of India, Geography, Economics, Political Science are a part of curriculum included as a part of Essential Studies for Professionals.

  • A Code of Conduct document is well circulated.

Community Engagement:

  • Visits child care homes, orphanages, and old age homes.
  • Organizes donation camps and encourages student participation..

Pet Society:

  • Runs a pet society, providing care for 150 stray dogs.
  • Regular feeding and medical care for stray dogs.

National Day Celebrations:

  • Celebrates Independence Day, Republic Day, and other national events.
  • Observes the birthdays of Subhas Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, and Rabindranath Tagore.

Cultural Fests and Invited Guests:

  • Highlights cultural heritage during cultural fests.
  • Invites renowned socio-cultural personalities as guests for enriching discussions.

Institution celebrates / organizes national and international commemorative days, events and festivals:

Describe the efforts of the institution to celebrate /organize national and international commemorative days, events and festivals during the year (within a maximum of 200 words).

 

Cultural Celebrations:

  • Annual Cultural Programme held on January 21st and 22nd, 2023.
  • Faculty, staff, and students participated, promoting messages of unity, peace, love, and happiness.

National Celebrations:

  • Republic Day (January 26) and Independence Day (August 15) celebrated with enthusiasm.
  • Observances include flag hoisting, parades, and paying tribute to freedom fighters.

World Environment Day:

  • Celebrated on June 5 to raise awareness about the environment.

Birth Anniversaries and Special Days:

  • Celebrations include Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday on 12th January, ,Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday, Rabindra Jayanti on May 7, and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
  • Special programs, speakers, and activities mark these occasions.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan:

  • Gandhi Jayanti includes initiatives for cleanliness, supporting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
  • Awareness programs on the ban on plastics and cleanliness conducted involving students.

Engineer’s Day and National Technology Day:

  • Celebrations on September 15 in honor of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and on May 11 to commemorate achievements in science and technology.

International Day of Yoga:

  • Recognized on June 21,promoting yoga’s universal appeal for health and well-being.

Women’s day and National Girl Child day

  • Women’s day and Girl Child day are celebrated on 8th March and 24th January respectively.
