Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) began its journey in 1989 with management studies. Engineering courses were later introduced at IIT Kharagpur campus in 1996. Engineering courses at IIT Kharagpur was initiated with the condition given by Prof. K.L. Chopra, the then-Director of IIT Kharagpur, that the same level of discipline and academic standards as IIT Kharagpur has to be maintained. The first principal of IEM was Prof. A. K. De, the Former Director of IIT Bombay. The first Chairman of the Governing Body of IEM was Dr. F. C. Kohli, Deputy Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services. Dr. F. C. Kohli remained the Chairman of IEM till he expired in 2020. Mr. T. C. Dutt, IAS, Former Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal acted as the mentor of IEM.

IEM since its inception 33 years ago, has surpassed innumerable benchmarks of achievements and accreditations. Being a NAAC ‘A’ grade institute all the eligible departments are NBA accredited. Over the years IEM has received several accolades like Times Knowledge Icon, ET Industry Leaders, Education Excellence Awards to name a few. IEM flaunts a colossal network of expansive operations led by awe-inspiring student force who are the torchbearers of a better tomorrow, with many alumni members earning more than Rs. 2 Crores salary per year in various MNCs.

Till date, the IEM is dedicated in upholding that foundation, which now has resulted in our students receiving outstanding employment opportunities after graduating from engineering and management courses.

Amid this pandemic, apart from regular online classes and exams, placement classes, webinars, industry and foreign certification courses, hackathons, mentoring, placements and admissions are going on with full rigor. Our students are placed in various reputed MNCs like GE, HSBC, Google, Facebook, AMAZON, etc.

Along with placements, IEM truly excels in startups with more than 500 startups by students, in innovation – with more than 500 patents and publications by students, in industry and foreign collaboration with industry lectures, industry visits and foreign lectures daily. IEM is one of the very few in India which gives the opportunity of Study Abroad Programme in USA, Canada, Australia, France, Singapore and the UK along with the opportunity to do more than 4000 foreign certifications from Universities like Harvard, Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, London Business School etc. Focusing on the overall growth of the students the group organises various sports, cultural, coding events and international conferences. IEM is associated with numerous social welfare programs around the year to encourage the students to look beyond the academic curriculum.
