3.4 – Extension Activities

Extension activities are carried out in the neighborhood community, sensitizing students to social issues, for their holistic development, and impact thereof during the last five years.

 

IEM Kolkata strongly believes in the need for holistic development of students and accordingly the institution has been in the forefront in directing the student’s energy towards addressing the social issues through its curriculum and extension activities. The institution has different clubs and chapters, which are active student bodies providing a platform for students to indulge in various co-curricular, extra-curricular activities. Some of the significant outcomes of the various clubs are mentioned below.

●          IEM Pet society which started in 2019 with a noble cause to stand up for all street animals.

o   The society has provided food, vaccination to all the dogs and other animals in the vicinity of the college area.

o   The society has provided neutering medical assistance to all the street animals in the neighbourhood of the college campus.

●          Inner wheel club of IEM has organized numerous extension events as given below:

o   Daily food distribution

o   Circulation of Covid-19 awareness kit

o   Tree plantation

o   Daily grocery & utensils distribution

o   Vaccination drive

o   Contribution for YAAS

o   Organizing Blood donation camp

o   Distribution of books & stationery to slum children

●       Rotary Club of Salt Lake Silicon Valley under the aegis of IEM Kolkata has organized different diversified activities as shown below:

    • Daily living kit distribution
    • Food and cloth distribution
    • Household items and utensil distribution
    • Sanitization kit distribution
    • Sanitary napkin distribution
    • Polio eradication
    • Launch of automated temperature sensing kiosk and tree plantation.
    • Rotary Club of Salt Lake Silicon Valley has contributed an amount of $500 to the Rotary Foundation India for the overall benefit of mankind all over the world.

●          The Lion’s Club of Kolkata, IEM has actively organized numerous activities as mentioned below:

o   Monitoring the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which is changing the way we live, work and serve. Providing essential foods and groceries to needy people.

o   The club also organizes different activities like cultural programs, charity and socio-academic programs (free education).

●        IEM has decided to create an Institutional Social Responsibility Committee for supporting the disadvantaged and deprived parts of the society and spreading smiles. The committee formed by the college is named S.M.I.L.E.: Students Mending Individual Lives Everywhere. IEM Smile Club organizes various extension activities as given below:

o   Blood donation camp, & various webinars on mental health related issues.

o   On the occasion of world environment day, due to the onset of the pandemic we are staying indoors to protect ourselves, our loved ones & also the also the overburdened health infrastructure.

o   Our SMILE members planted a tree each in their houses – terrace garden, balcony garden, and locality wherever suitable for a greener environment and indeed adds values to our society.

●        Kolkata Nivedita Shakti (KNS) in association with Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) & Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) has well thought-out several extension actions as given below:

o   Alternative way of Motherhood

o   125th Birthday Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

o   National Girl Child Day
