Measures initiated by the institution for the promotion of gender equity during the year: Highlight the curricular and co- and extracurricular activities promoting gender equity and sensitization and the facilities available for women on campus (within a maximum of 200 words). ●Institute has ensured gender equality in representation of women in all top positions. Registrar section, Library, Placement cell, Deans, Examination Controller Department, HR, HODs, Asst. HODs, IQAC are all headed by women. ● Percentage of female faculties : 34%(2021-22) ● Percentage of female students: 29%(2021-22) ● IEM has implemented a common uniform for all of its students. ● The process of selection for the post of the Head of the student body (IEM student Gymkhana) provides equal chances to all students irrespective of gender, race or religion. ● Institute has two women counselors who provide regular counseling sessions. ● Institute organizes more than 50 training programs, seminars, workshops etc. on gender equality and sensitization. ● “Virangana”-workshop on girl empowerment through self-defense in association with Rotary Club of Calcutta was organized by the institute. In addition to these. ● National Girl Child Day and Women’s Day is celebrated every year. ● Compulsory Karate and self defense sessions are conducted during regular PT classes. ● IEM in association with Kolkata Nivedita Shakti organized an event “Alternative way of Motherhood” on 22nd January 2022. ● Institute has taken several measures to enhance safety & security on campuses by constituting Internal Complaints Committee(ICC), installing 288 CCTV cameras & by providing 24 hours*7 days security. Describe the facilities in the institution for the management of the following types of degradable and non-degradable waste (within a maximum of 200 words): ● Solid Waste Management Different garbage collecting bins have been placed at various locations for solid waste management. Waste disposal is done by NKDA daily. ● Liquid Waste Management ❖ Wastewater and sewage treatment follows the aerobic sewage treatment technique. Waste-water is treated and used in the gardening process. ❖ Rainwater harvesting is also practiced, which involves collecting and storing rainwater for later use. ● E-waste Management ❖ Defective electronic devices are repaired to guarantee that they can be utilized further. ❖ E-waste is safely disposed and recycled every six months in collaboration with Hulladek Recycling Pvt. Ltd. as per state government guidelines. ❖ IEM is certified for the ethical collection and channelization of E-waste
● Waste recycling system Waste-water after the purification process is used for gardening. Paper-waste is recycled and e-waste is disposed of in a proper way. ● Hazardous chemicals waste management : In the labs we use very dilute solutions. We never discard the chemicals/solutions directly to the basin/environment. A neutralization pit is used into which the students discard solutions which are slightly acidic or alkaline. The solutions/chemicals are neutralized and disposed of from the neutralization pit. Sensitization of students and employees of the institution to constitutional obligations: values, rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens: Describe the various activities of the institution for inculcating values for becoming responsible citizens as reflected in the Constitution of India (within a maximum of 200 words). ● Daily morning assemblies are held, where achievements of faculties, alumni, students are discussed and daily morals of the day shared. ● More than 1000 talks, seminars, events, debate competitions, panel discussions, workshops, tree-plantation initiatives are conducted in order to nurture the socio economic responsibilities of the students and faculties. ● Different child care homes, orphanages, old age homes etc are often visited and donation camps are held by the students (guided by faculties). ● The college encourages the students to take part in blood donation camps, study tours and industrial visits. ● The institute also runs a pet society where about 150 stray dogs and animals are not only fed regularly but are provided medical care on requirement. ● Independence day, Republic day, celebration of birthdays of Subhas Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi and RabindraNath Tagore, Engineers day, Teachers day etc are conducted at the college premises. ● The college establishes policies that reflect core values.
