Institution integrates crosscutting issues relevant to Professional Ethics, Gender, Human Values, Environment and Sustainability into the Curriculum

 

In order to integrate cross-cutting issues such as gender, environment and sustainability, human values, and professional ethics, the institute has incorporated a variety of courses into the curriculum, some of which focus on professional competencies while others aim to instil general competencies such as social and ethical values, human values, environmental sensitivity, and so on, resulting in students’ holistic development.

All programmes incorporate ethics, human values, and environmental studies courses in their curriculum.

Ethics in the Workplace

Professional ethics courses are taught to students in order to provide them with the necessary soft skills for their future profession.

●       13 courses (MOOCs)* on professional ethics are being offered by MAKAUT/ Autonomy syllabus in first year

●       Course on Essential Studies for Professionals (HSMC102 & HSMC202) & English Communication and Public Speaking Skills (HSMC101 & HSMC201) are included in autonomous syllabus in 1st Year

 

Sensitivity towards gender

The confluence of theory and practise is used to achieve gender sensitivity and sensitization. Under the Internal Complaints Committee, there are several hands-on gender sensitivity activities that allow students to interact with real-life situations, such as field work, community outreach, and gender sensitization exercises (ICC).

Women Empowerment activities, such as seminars and debates, are held which focuses on Gender Sensitization and Social Responsibility, Awareness of Sexual Harassment at Workplace.

Values and Ethics

All students are required to take a course on human values as a subject / open elective at least once during their programme of study. Working in NGOs, organising blood donation camps, health check-up camps, hygiene and health workshops, environment awareness camps, river cleanliness drives, workshops on social concerns, public health, gender issues, and so on are all examples of social development activities. The operations of each institution/campus are closely monitored by the faculty in charge.

Students’ participation in social activities as part of their course curriculum attempts to instil values, ethics, and socially responsible qualities. Students plan street performances, public awareness campaigns, and discussions, among other things. Students have been involved in human values activities since the beginning. Students and faculty members have participated in social development activities such as working with NGOs, organising blood donation camps, health check-up camps, hygiene and health seminars, cleaning campaigns, workshops on social issues, feeding and caring for street pets, and so on.

Environment Studies

A course in environmental studies is required in all undergraduate programmes. Students from all programmes participated in a variety of events such as seminars, workshops, guest lectures, industry visits, tree planting, and field trips to promote awareness about environmental and sustainability issues.
